HEALTHIER, HAPPIER COMMUNITIES

The Healthworks Foundation is a registered 501( C)(3) non-profit organization devoted to serving the health and fitness needs of women and children in the Boston area.  We believe that all women, regardless of economic status, deserve access to high-quality fitness opportunities and health support.  The Foundation currently operates two non-profit fitness centers in Dorchester, run by Foundation staff and many volunteers.

Healthworks at St. Mary’s, opened in 2002, is a 3,500 square foot facility serving homeless and low-income women and teenage mothers from St. Mary’s Women and Children’s Center.  Healthworks at Codman, opened in 2009, is a fully-equipped, 9,000-square foot facility.  It was established through a partnership between the Healthworks Foundation and the Codman Square Health Center.  It includes a 1,800 square foot “Youth Fitness Zone” for children, and will soon offer a teaching kitchen so that members can learn how to cook and eat healthfully.  Healthworks at Codman currently accepts medical referrals from the Codman Square Health Center, the Dorchester House Multi-Service Center, and other medical institutions and provides free memberships to patients prescribed exercise to treat chronic diseases including type-2 diabetes, hypertension, mood disorders, and obesity.

With support, the Healthworks Foundation aims to operate thriving community fitness centers that provide the highest quality holistic nutrition, fitness, and well-being services while working directly with community-based resources in order to expand the scope of care to patients, resulting in fitter, healthier, happier, and better-educated communities.

Help us with our mission, empower others to lead healthier lives and truly affect change.
